In what seems to be trending as a theater tradition, the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company in Ohio will debut its new Otto M. Budig Theater with a production of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, running September 8–30, 2017.
Dream is one of two Shakespeare titles in the theater's debut season. Othello is scheduled next March. Other plays planned for the season are The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Laura Eason, Todd Kreidler's Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (slotted before Othello's run), Tennessee Williams's Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and Noises Off! by Michael Frayn. Two special holiday features are Dracula by Steven Dietz in October and Every Christmas Story Ever Told (and Then Some!) by Michael Carleton, James Fitzgerald, and John K. Alvarex for the Christmas season. For dates, check Bard on the Boards.
This is the third new theater to open with A Midsummer Night's Dream in the past four years. New York's Theatre for a New Audience opened its Polonsky Shakespeare Center in 2013 with a Julie Taymor–directed production, and Chesapeake Shakespeare Company picked the play for its first production, directed by the company's artistic director, Ian Gallanar, in its downtown Baltimore space, which opened in 2014.
