Shakespeare Dallas is offering a discount to schools that book its revised touring educational show, "Speak the Speech: Shakespeare and the Spoken Word."
Created and directed by Marco Salina, Shakespeare Dallas' director of educational tours, "Speak the Speech: Shakespeare and the Spoken Word" is a compilation of Shakespeare's plays and sonnets that was remastered and revamped last fall. The 55-minute program offers students an overview on Shakespeare's use of language including rhymed verse, blank verse, prose, and iambic pentameter. The actors play out live scenes from Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing, and Hamlet.
This program also includes age-specific interactive exercises that focus on literary elements including character development and themes, along with drama components including costume history and fight choreography. In addition to watching a performance of "Shakespeare and the Spoken Word" at their school, students are given the opportunity to see one of the theater's fall performances, free, of The Winter's Tale.
This program meets Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills standards for English language arts and reading.
The actors go to the school, with the show's running time intended to fit into class schedules. This production is suitable for grades 6–12, and up to 150 students may attend each performance. The price is $350, but those schools booking performances by March 15 will get a $50 discount. Scholarships are also available.
