Doc on Nursing Home Dream to Premiere

The documentary Still Dreaming, produced by the same filmmakers who did Shakespeare Behind Bars, will be getting its official world premiere this month at DOC NYC, a film festival dedicated to documentaries.

Directed by Hank Rogerson and Jilann Spitzmiller, who also coproduced the film through their Santa Fe–based production company Philomath Films, Still Dreaming documents the residents of the Lillian Booth Actors Home staging a public production of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. The nursing home residents have a wide array of theater experience and Broadway credits, but some are at various stages of physical, mental, and psychological disabilities.

Directing their play are Ben Steinfeld and Noah Brody, founding members of Fiasco Theater Company. The documentary traces the two young directors as they cast the play and cajole residents through rehearsals to a public staging.

Scheduled screenings at DOC NYC are Tuesday, Nov. 18, 7:15 p.m. at the IFC Center, 323 Sixth Ave. at West Third St., and Wednesday, Nov. 19, 5 p.m. at the IFC Center. Rogerson and Spitzmiller will be on hand after the screenings for Q&A sessions.
