The Los Angeles–based Independent Shakespeare Company's Studio production of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet will be putting on its traveling boots and going on the road. In addition to its run in the ISC Studio, Romeo and Juliet is also available for a limited number of school performances.
Suitable for middle and high school, the athletic staging and visually rich design of this Romeo and Juliet will create a world of adolescent longing, joyous love, and dire consequences, says a company newsletter.
As preparation for the performance, ISC teaching artists are available to lead in-school workshops that will deepen students' understanding and enjoyment of the play, as well as expanding their aesthetic imagination. The flexible-fee structure includes options for performance only (including a Q & A with the artists), one workshop session plus a performance, and five-day residency plus performance.
Teachers interested in this program, or a parent who would like to sponsor a performance in their child's school, can contact Melissa Chalsma at chalsma@iscla.org. or call 818-710-6306.
