As the partial government shutdown drags on, theaters are joining with other businesses to offer specials for furloughed government workers.
The Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C.—just blocks from many agency headquarters affected by the shutdown—is offering a limited number of free tickets to its upcoming production of William Shakespeare's Richard III. The free tickets, a limit of four per Federal identification card, are for the play's preview week, February 5–10. Using promo code FEDERAL19, the employee may order the tickets online, by phone, or at the box office. Government employees must present a valid Federal ID when picking up tickets.
Acknowledging that the shutdown is affecting communities outside of the nation's capital, the Atlanta Shakespeare Company is offering discounts to Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost at the Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse through January 27. Furloughed and out-of-work government employees and their immediate families are welcome to buy-one-get-one-free (BOGO) tickets for all seating areas, all performances for the full run of the play. Call the box office at 404-874-5299 ext. 0 and mention this offer to receive the discount. One BOGO per government ID, which must be shown at the box office when picking up tickets.
