New Orleans Shakespeare Festival at Tulane

Jazz Joins Shakespeare in 20th Season

SFT: The New Orleans Shakespeare Festival at Tulane logoThe New Orleans Shakespeare Festival at Tulane will be heading into its 20th Anniversary Season in June with what is one of its most unique seasons ever, bringing together nearly 50 performers, designers, and production staff from all over Louisiana and as far away as Boston.

William Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor and Romeo and Juliet will, in succession, occupy the Lupin Mainstage in Tulane's Lupin Theatre. Directed by Clare Moncrief, Merry Wives will run June 13–29, then the Amy Holtcamp–directed Romeo and Juliet takes up residence July 11–27.

In the Lab Theatre, the Festival will offer Shakespeare's work in one of its most hilarious and irreverent forms with The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged). Directed by Carl Walker, it will run June 23–July 17.

Back by popular demand, The Shakespearean Jazz Show will run as a post-show event on the Mainstage, June 20–23, with Shakespeare's words set to live jazz music (directed by Alex Ates). For a sneak peek video of the Shakespearean Jazz Show, click here.

To close out the summer, the students of the Gavin Mahlie All Things Shakespeare Training Program will present a production of The Taming of the Shrew, Aug. 8–11, at the Lupin.
