The Vermont Shakespeare Company is celebrating its 10th anniversary season this summer with a production of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
Once again the company will present the play in three venues over three weekends in August: Outdoors at Knight Point State Park in North Hero and at the Shelburne Museum's Circus Lawn, and indoors at the Royall Tyler Theatre on the University of Vermont (UVM) campus.
A primary goal of the company is to expose more people to Shakespeare by making his works accessible, highly physical, and immediate for today's audience. Using its signature fast-paced physical style of performance, the Vermont Shakespeare Company continues to work toward its ultimate goal of becoming a nationally recognized destination Shakespeare festival.
The partnership with UVM gives the company an indoor venue while giving students in the university's theater department an opportunity to gain professional experience.
Romeo and Juliet will play at Knight Point State Park Aug. 1–2 at 6 p.m. The Shelburne Museum Circus Lawn performances are scheduled for Aug. 7–8 at 6 p.m. and Aug. 9 at 2 p.m. These shows are on open lawns and audiences are encouraged to bring their own seating.
The Royall Tyler Theatre performance is scheduled for Aug. 14–15 at 7:30 p.m. and Aug. 16 at 2 p.m. with general admission seating.
Tickets for all venues are available through flynntix.org or at the door. For more information and reservations, call 877-874-1911.
